Central Moravian at Dusk

I received a commission to do an oil painting of Central Moravian church in Bethlehem for the Brick Tavern Inn in Quakertown. I chose to paint the building at dusk, when the steeple is dramatically lit against the dark sky. First, I did a painting in pastel to get the composition and values worked out. I ended up really liking how the study came out, and it actually sold before the oil painting was finished. The oil painting was bigger than I usually work, but I think it kept a lot of the appealing elements of the pastel. Jeff Whitted of Aslan Interiors, who designed the space, was kind enough to send me a photo of the painting hanging in its finished place in the restaurant.

My oil painting of the John Chads house is also hanging at the Brick Tavern Inn, so if you are enjoying a meal there, check them out!
